Beef Stir-Fry

Ingredients:

  • For the Beef:
    • 1 lb (450 g) beef (sirloin, flank, or ribeye), thinly sliced against the grain
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for marinating)
  • For the Stir-Fry:
    • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1-inch piece of ginger, minced or grated
    • 1 bell pepper, sliced (any color)
    • 1 cup broccoli florets
    • 1 carrot, sliced thinly
    • 1 cup snap peas or green beans
    • 3-4 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • For the Sauce:
    • 1/4 cup soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional)
    • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or white vinegar
    • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
    • Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine the sliced beef, soy sauce, cornstarch, and vegetable oil. Mix well and let it marinate for about 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Sauce:
    • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, vinegar, honey, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using). Set aside.
  3. Cook the Beef:
    • In a large skillet or wok, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil over high heat.
    • Add the marinated beef in a single layer. Cook for about 2-3 minutes without stirring, allowing it to sear. Then stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Stir-Fry the Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed. Add the minced garlic and ginger, stirring for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
    • Add the bell pepper, broccoli, carrot, and snap peas. Stir-fry for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine and Serve:
    • Return the cooked beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over everything. Toss to combine and heat through for another 1-2 minutes.
    • Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
  6. Serve:
    • Serve the stir-fry over steamed rice or noodles.

Tips:

  • Feel free to customize the vegetables based on your preferences or what you have on hand.
  • For extra flavor, you can add a splash of sesame oil right before serving.

Enjoy your delicious beef stir-fry!
